Sunday Email: Issue 277

Welcome to your Sunday Email.

It has been a very sad and extremely emotional week for three families in Topcliffe. There were three deaths on Tuesday 19 August – two in the village, Peter Foster of East Lea and Ray Fothergill of Park Lodge Farm and my own mother who lived in Middlesbrough.

Peter leaves behind his wife Rosie and five children – Ethan 16, Thomas 14, Harvey 12, Rocco 11 and Hunter 6. Funeral details will be announced next week.

The announcement of Ray’s death and details of his funeral are shown in a message later in this email.

As for my mum, she was an extraordinary mother. This is the Facebook message my brother posted and which has had many hundreds of reads and comments:

It’s with huge sadness but also unending pride that we announce the passing of our beautiful, much-loved Mum, Jo Allan. Mam passed away peacefully on Tuesday night (19th August) aged 103 (and only a couple of months off 104).

She once said she just wanted to be “an ordinary mother”. She surpassed that by some margin as a quite extraordinary… *Mum to 12 *Grandma to 37 *Great Grandma to 54 (with at least one more on the way) *Great great grandma to 2. That’s a family of 105 before we even count partners!

Mum was also proud to have served her country during World War II as one of the renowned “Aycliffe Angels” who supplied munitions for the war effort. And she really was an Angel – the doors to Heaven are sure to have been flung wide open to welcome her. She’s now at peace and reunited with Dad. Forever missed by all of us. ❤️
