TODAY: Sunday 7 September at 3pm the UK Government will send a test Emergency Alert to mobile phones across the UK in the second ever national test of the system. The test is part of plans to strengthen the country’s preparedness and follows a government commitment to test the system regularly to make sure it works sufficiently and helps familiarise the public with the alerts. During the test, mobile phones will vibrate and make a loud siren sound for roughly ten seconds, even if they are set to silent. A message will also appear on phone screens, making it clear the alert is only a test.

Asenby Village Improvement Plan
Recently a lot of work has gone into improving the bus shelter/library as part of the village’s Improvement Plan. It is looking splendid and there‘s a lot more storage for books now. If you have any books lying about, especially children and teen books, please consider donating them to the library.
The plan is to provide a second planter, but it’s proving difficult to source the right one. Once one is located, it will be installed ready for the 2026 blooms.

Welcome Pack
The ‘Welcome pack’ prepared by Topcliffe & Asenby Village Hall Committee is proving popular with new residents and since its launch in June, four packs have been handed out. The comprehensive information sheet is now offered to all people who move into either Topcliffe or Asenby. It lists important contact details for local organisations and lets people know how to get in touch with the organisers of activities in the two villages. Committee member Chrissy Findlay is managing the distribution of the Welcome Pack in hard copy or electronic format. As she’s a dog walker, she tends to notice what’s going on, but she would welcome being informed when someone new moves in. She can be called or texted on 07717 795711. See a copy of the Welcome Pack here.
