Christmas carols in Topcliffe
|
|
|
A record number of Topcliffe and Asenby residents turned up at the Christmas tree outside the Village Hall on Friday evening to sing carols and celebrate Christmas. Among the 60+ singers were some of the children of Topcliffe Academy’s new choir. After the carols everyone had mulled wine and mince pies in the hall. Here are some more photographs – 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Thanks are due to Karen and Malcolm Morley who worked so hard to provide the refreshments on offer. Thanks are also due to Alison Robertson who, in just a few weeks, managed to recruit members of the choir, hold regular rehearsals and be ready for a number of festive performances, including ours.

The Topcliffe Big Race Night
The Big Race Night will be held at the Village Hall on Saturday 22 February 2025. There’ll be eight video races and betting on the horse of your choice. Lots of local businesses, including Severfield, Yes Hire, Hambleton Brewery, Crab Manor Hotel, My Electrical Contractors, Topcliffe Post Office, JAB Agricultural, My Lock Up and The Angel Inn have provided sponsorship and many others have supplied fantastic raffle prizes.
Name your horse
Punters are invited to name a horse in each of the eight races. There are 64 horses to be named… but names have sold fast and there’s now only half a dozen available. It costs £5 per name.
Reserve Tickets
Entry tickets will be priced at £8, to include a two-course supper, and will go on sale early in the New Year…though tickets can be reserved if anyone wishes to make sure they don’t miss out!

The next Warm Hub lunch will be held at the Village Hall on Wednesday 8 January from 11.30 to 12.45pm and then fortnightly thereafter. There’ll be a selection of home-made meals, followed by puddings and tea or coffee. All welcome. There’s no set charge, but donations are welcome to help pay the rental cost of hiring the Village Hall and for essential food and drink items that must be purchased for each lunch.
The special Warm Hub roast pork and beef lunch organised on Wednesday 18 December was very well attended. Donations totalled £156, of which £50 has been presented to the Marie Currie Charity. The rest helped to pay hall rent and supplement the Warm Hub Community Fund.
Residents of Topcliffe and Asenby can have a meal delivered if they are housebound – either on a short-term basis because of illness, or longer-term. If you wish to have a meal on the day the Warm Hub is held, please get in touch with Karen Morley on 01845 577426.
