The Asenby Park Fun Run
TODAY: Sunday 30 June, 2 to 4pm – the Asenby Park Fun Run and activities day. A perfect opportunity for villagers to come together to see the amazing efforts by local volunteers and the Parish Council to create a new community space.
Dedicated runners can challenge themselves on the 1km course, and there’s a more gentle jog around for the less serious. Also a 400m route that children can enjoy.
There will be lots of games and there’s a new football net now in place making it ideal for those who want a kick-about. Also lookout for the cake stall as well as tea and coffee… and of course the obligatory raffle and tombola. Tickets for the raffle will be on sale at £2 each or £8 for a strip of five tickets and it’s cash only. There are some great prizes to be won.
The new trees are coming along nicely and some new signage at the park entrance has been erected to help identify them. Wild flowers continue to emerge amongst the long grass, so see how many can you identify.
Sorry, but dogs are not permitted in the community park (guide dogs and assistance dogs excepted).

The Topcliffe Ceilidh held last Saturday at the Village Hall was a sell-out and a huge success. Eighty villagers danced the night away to music provided by the excellent Cod Beck Ceilidh Band. The food prepared by Karen Morley and served by Linda Carver and a few others, went down a treat…and lots of lucky people went home with a fantastic raffle prize. Well done all those involved, especially organisers Sarah Barber and Jane Burnett, but also the Post Office staff who helped sell tickets and all the local businesses that provided prizes for the raffle. The flowers provided by Sahra Raynor of Willow View Farm Cut Flowers & Foliage were amazing and all were sold at the end of the evening to boost funds. Finally, thanks to all of those who bought tickets and went along for a great evening, which raised over £900 for the Village Hall.
Here’s a few more photographs of the night – 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5, 6 , 7.

The council meets a number of times each year depending on needs within the village. This is a paid post and would particularly suit someone who has held a similar post in the past, although this is not essential as guidance and support will be available. Your local councillor…always available to help
Local councillor, Rev. Dan Sladden, who represents the Sowerby & Topcliffe division on North Yorkshire Council has indicated that he intends to stay in touch with residents all year round – not just at election time. One of his main campaign promises, which no doubt helped in getting him elected last November, was his clear desire to be accessible to people and to listen to their concerns and ideas for our community. He has already been quite active in support of issues in Topcliffe and his support has been very welcome.
His email address is cllr.dan.sladden@northyorks.gov.uk and his phone number is 07466 487989 – so do not hesitate to contact him if you have any issues you would like to discuss with him.
