Christmas bonus from Topcliffe Charities
Every Christmas the Topcliffe Charities present a small gift to those in Asenby and Topcliffe who are aged 80 and over. In Asenby Carole Ford organises the distribution and in Topcliffe it’s Anne-Marie Barningham and Doug Allan who look after the gift arrangements.
The representatives try to assess who is eligible to receive the Christmas gift, but they can only rely on local information and knowledge to determine who qualifies: there’s no official list of those reaching 80 years of age.
If you have this year reached 80 years of age and would like to be added to the list of recipients, please get in touch as soon as possible. If you live in Asenby, contact Carole on 01845 577718 and if you live in Topcliffe, Anne-Marie on 07740 175311. If you have previously received a gift at Christmas, there’s no need to get in touch as you are already known to the organisers.

Asenby Improvements Plan
There’s still time to comment on Asenby Parish Council’s improvement plan, which lists projects to be tackled in the coming months to maintain and improve the village. The council is seeking views on the following ideas…and would also welcome additional project suggestions:
- Clean and re-touch the lettering on the Asenby stones at the village entrances.
- Planting of flower beds at each stone.
- Erection of signs at the village entrances and at the end of Cundall Road, making motorists aware of children playing.
- Improvements to the bus shelter, including a second flower planter at the entrance, additional book shelves, including a children’s section, and the re-arrangement of the notice boards to accommodate the new bookshelves. Also, control of ivy and a general clean and re-paint where necessary.
- Keep the four benches in the village and those on the Riverside Walk clean and well maintained
Feedback and new ideas are welcome by 22 November. A further version of the improvement plan will be circulated once it is finalised. Comments to steve.gallon@icloud.com or text, phone or WhatsApp on 07764 694979.
