New website for Asenby Parish Council
Asenby Parish Council has this morning (Sunday 22 March) launched a new website. The new site is designed to meet new government requirements for accessibility and it is supported by new ‘gov.uk’ email addresses for all parish councillors.
Colin Grimston, the Parish Clerk, said: “This new website will be fully compliant with the government’s latest requirements. It is easier to navigate, more secure and will meet the latest accessibility guidance. It will also have additional functionality, such as event booking, easy access to planning applications and page reader apps will find it easier to translate.”
The new web address is www.asenbyparish.gov.uk and the new email address for Colin Grimston is clerk@asenbyparish.gov.uk.
The old website has now been taken down and, for the foreseeable future, anyone using the old address will automatically be diverted to the new site.

The Toll Booth
No date has been set for the proposed consultation that Topcliffe Parish Council will be having about the future of the Toll Booth. The Parish Council will be organising a letter/leaflet that will be delivered to all homes in the village with the aim of ascertaining residents’ views about the next steps. It’s understood councillors will seek a clear ‘yes’ or ‘no’, which basically means spend the necessary money to secure the building’s future, or attempt to dispose of it. There’ll be more information in your Sunday Email when details are known.

The post box issue
A few weeks ago the Sunday Email featured a photograph of the post box outside the Post Office and explained why it is wrapped up and inaccessible for posting letters. The fact is that Royal Mail is introducing digital letterboxes…but a good question is why did they take our existing post box out of use when they weren’t ready to install the new type?
This is obviously a question that the new Post Office owners are regularly being asked. It has led to Colin Throupe issuing the following statement on Facebook:
“We’ve had a few customers asking about the new digital post boxes appearing. Just to reassure everyone – these are a Royal Mail initiative, not something Introduced by our Post Office, and we don’t have any control over where they’re installed or how they work.
“We’re always happy to help with posting your letters and parcels as normal, and nothing has changed with the services we offer in branch.
“If you have any questions about the new digital boxes, go to the Royal Mail’s website for the latest Information.
“Thank you for your understanding and for supporting your local Post Office.”

Churchyard Maintenance
A churchyard grounds maintenance tidy up day is being held on Saturday 28 March to get to grips with things as spring growth gets underway. Volunteers are asked to be there between 9.30am and noon. If you can offer an hour or two to help the spring tidy up and also continue progress on reclaiming the lower terraces, please pop along. If necessary, a second tidy-up session will be organised on Saturday 11 April.
It’s hoped that one or two more volunteers might join the regular grass-cutting team so that the amount of cutting is shared by a few more individuals.

Last Warm Hub lunch
The next Warm Hub on Wednesday 1 April between 11.30am and 12.45pm, will be the last one of the winter. From Wednesday 15 April the team will be serving Soup and Sweets.
These fortnightly lunchtime meals are served at Topcliffe & Asenby Village Hall between 11.30am and 12.45pm. Everyone, of all ages from Topcliffe and Asenby and surrounding areas, is welcome to attend. There’s no set charge, but donations are welcome to help pay the rental cost of hiring the Village Hall and other unavoidable expenses.
The organisers don’t receive grant support or surplus food from supermarkets: everything is bought and paid for, cooked and brought into the hall by volunteers, many of whom are senior citizens themselves.
Residents of Topcliffe and Asenby villages can have their lunch delivered if they are housebound – either on a short-term basis because of illness, or longer-term. If you wish to have a meal delivered on the day the lunch is held, please get in touch with Karen Morley on 01845 577426.
Last week’s lunch saw 50 meals served. A donation of £50 was made to the Royal British Legion in Thirsk.
